Rosenthal "Monbijou" Iris Bowl, Antique, Bavaria, Germany, Circa 1896–1906
An antique porcelain bowl from Rosenthal's Monbijou line, marked with the company's early "R.C." crown-and-crossed-swords backstamp alongside "Monbijou" and "Bavaria" — a mark used specifically for this line beginning in 1896, dating this piece to circa 1896–1906.
The bowl has an irregular, deeply scalloped rim with notched cutouts at intervals, a hallmark of the Monbijou shape line. The interior is decorated with loose, painterly sprays of purple and lavender iris blossoms in yellow-throated bloom, accented with soft green sprigs, scattered asymmetrically across the white ground — a design with real presence for a piece of this age.
Dimensions: 10" diameter x 2¼" deep.
Condition: There is a rim chip on the underside/back of the bowl, fully disclosed in the detail photograph; it is not visible when the bowl is displayed or used face-up. No other chips, cracks, or damage present.
