Hutschenreuther Bavaria Hand-Painted Plate, Magenta Carnations, Selb Germany

 Hutschenreuther is one of Germany's oldest and most enduring porcelain houses, founded in 1814 by Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther in Hohenberg, Bavaria. His son Lorenz struck out on his own in 1857 to found a second factory in the town of Selb — a location that would go on to become so densely packed with porcelain manufacturers, Hutschenreuther among them, that it earned the nickname "the City of Porcelain." This plate carries the Hutschenreuther Selb mark, tying it to that second, Selb-based branch of the family firm.

The decoration itself carries the hallmarks of genuine hand-painted work: a spray of magenta and deep purple carnations rendered with individually shaded, ruffled petals, set against a softly blended background that shifts from pale green to blush pink — the kind of atmospheric, brushed-in ground that distinguishes hand-painted china from crisper transfer-printed patterns. A fine gilt rim finishes the edge.
