Orrefors "Belle" Crystal Tulip Bowls by Jan Johansson — Matched Pair, Signed

A matched pair of hand-formed crystal tulip bowls from Orrefors' celebrated Belle series, designed by Swedish glass artist Jan Johansson. Each bowl is pulled into six flaring, asymmetric petals from a single piece of full lead crystal — a sculptural, freeform silhouette that catches and bends light differently from every angle.

The Designer

Jan Johansson (1942–2018) joined Orrefors in 1969 after training at Stockholm's Konstfack, one of Sweden's most prestigious art and design schools. His work is defined by clean, sculptural forms that treat crystal itself as the subject — refining optical effects through shape alone rather than cutting or engraving. Johansson's pieces are held in the permanent collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, among others.

The Bowls

Each bowl (~4") carries the Orrefors Sweden foil label and is signed "Orrefors" on the base. Both are heavy for their size — full lead crystal with real substance in hand — and versatile enough to use as a catch-all dish, votive holder, or small display vase.

Condition

Excellent. No chips, cracks, or cloudiness on either piece. No box.

Why a Pair

Belle bowls turn up individually far more often than as a matched pair — most listings online are for single pieces. Having two together, both signed and both in excellent condition, makes this a stronger find for anyone building a Scandinavian design collection or simply wanting a symmetrical pair for a mantel or console table.
