Takahashi San Francisco Octagonal Plate, Iron Red, Black & Gold with Chrysanthemum Medallions, Imari-Inspired — Japan
A striking octagonal decorative plate in the Imari-inspired palette of iron red, black, and gold. A dense black-and-gold trellis ground sets off eight iron-red cartouches around the rim, each with a gold chrysanthemum head flanked by white, red-veined leaves, framing a larger matching medallion at the center. White borders and small floral reserves define each panel.
Made in Japan for Takahashi San Francisco, a well-known importer of Japanese decorative giftware. The original gold foil label remains on the back (“Takahashi® San Francisco 94103, Made in Japan”); its ZIP code places the plate after 1963.
Measures 7⅛" side to side and 7¾" point to point. No chips or cracks. A few small losses to the black enamel in the trellis ground surrounding the central medallion, visible on close inspection. The gold rim and remaining decoration are bright.
