O.P.Co. Syracuse China Covered Vegetable Tureen, Antique, USA, Circa 1897–1920

A round, footed covered vegetable tureen from the Onondaga Pottery Company (O.P.Co.), Syracuse, New York, marked with the three-line "O.P.CO. / SYRACUSE / CHINA" backstamp used from 1897 until the company began adding date codes to its marks in 1920 — placing this piece in that pre-date-code window. O.P.Co. was among the first American manufacturers to produce vitreous china, building a reputation that carried it into hotels, railroad dining cars, and households across the country in the decades around the turn of the century.

The tureen is gently scalloped along the rim, with gilt-trimmed loop handles on the body and a gilt-accented loop finial on the lid. The pattern is an unnamed floral design — small purple and lavender blossoms with sage-green foliage scattered lightly across the bowl's interior, lid, and exterior band. A faint gold script mark is present on the underside of the lid but is not currently legible enough to confirm as a pattern name.

Dimensions: 7⅝" diameter, 8⅝" outside diameter, 10" handle to handle, 4½" tall.

Condition:  Very good. No chips, cracks, or crazing noted. Gilt wear is minimal for its age.
