A complete Limoges dinner service for twelve, finished with a matching serving suite that includes a full-size turkey platter, a covered soup tureen, and a three-part butter chiller. Every piece carries cascading garlands of pink roses and soft green leaves. The rims are finished with a feathered gold edge and a solid gold band, and the handles and finials are richly gilded.

The service combines two closely coordinating decorations. Seven place settings and the entire serving suite are in POY458, with fuller, cascading clusters of roses. Five place settings are in its companion pattern, POY491, a narrower continuous garland of smaller roses. They share the same palette and gold treatment and appear to have been assembled together in period.

Place settings:

  • 12 dinner plates, 9¾"
  • 17 salad plates, 8⅝"
  • 15 bread plates, 7½"
  • 16 cups, 2⅛" tall × 3½"
  • 17 saucers, 5⅜"
  • 9 rim soup bowls, 8⅞" × 1½" deep
  • 10 dessert bowls, 5¼" × 1" deep
  • 12 butter pats, 3¹⁄₁₆” (6 scalloped, 6 round)

Serving suite:

  • Turkey platter, 18" × 14"
  • Large platter, 15¼" × 11¾"
  • Medium platter, 13⅛" × 10¼"
  • Small platter, 11" × 9"
  • Covered soup tureen, 14¼" handle to handle × 9½" × 7⅛" tall (ladle not included)
  • Oval covered vegetable, 12" handle to handle × 6¾" × 5" tall
  • Round covered vegetable, 10" handle to handle × 8¼" × 4⅞" tall
  • Butter chiller with pierced drainer insert and domed lid, 7" × 4⅛" tall
  • Gravy boat, 7¼" × 4", with separate scalloped underplate, 9" × 5⅞"
  • Oval serving bowl, 9⅜" × 7³⁄₁₆” × 2"
  • Scalloped relish tray, 9¾" × 5⅛"

Bonus piece: A second matching oval serving bowl, which has a chip along the underside of the rim, is included at no charge. It is not counted in the 119 pieces.

Most pieces carry the green underglaze J.P./L. FRANCE mark of Jean Pouyat. The dessert bowls and some soup bowls are on blanks from other Limoges makers, and two soup bowls are unmarked. The rose garlands are transfer-printed, and the gold is hand-applied.

Condition: There are no chips or cracks on any of the 119 pieces. The gold is bright throughout; the softly feathered gold edge on the rims is part of the original decoration, not wear. Light marks consistent with stacking appear on some pieces, with no signs of utensil scratching. The set has a number of minor glaze flaws from manufacture, which appear as small indented specks; the most noticeable is on the tureen lid near the handle base. Very good condition for a set of this age.

Gold-decorated porcelain should be hand washed and is not microwave safe.
