Hutschenreuther Selb Bavaria Lidded Jar, Germany, Vintage, Circa 1946–1948 — US Zone Mark, Botanical & Butterfly Motif

A lidded porcelain jar from Hutschenreuther, Selb, Germany, marked with the company's oval lion "L.H.S." backstamp paired with "Bavaria Germany US Zone" — a mark used specifically between 1946 and 1948, tied to the American administrative zone of postwar occupied Germany.

The piece is decorated in a naturalistic botanical illustration style rather than the more common stylized floral transferware of the era — daisies, bluebells, forget-me-nots, a dandelion seed head, and violets rendered with real attention to detail, animated by delicate butterflies in flight. The rounded, bulbous body is finished with a gilt rim and a polished gold ball finial atop the domed lid.

Dimensions: 5½" tall x 6¾" diameter.

Condition: There is a small chip on the jar's interior lip — the ledge just inside the opening where the lid rests — a remaining imperfection remaining from a larger chip that appears to have been partially repaired at some point. This does not affect fit or function; the lid seats properly with no gaps or looseness, and the repair is sound. No other damage present.
